Looking back at the Tennessee basketball career of Trae Golden
Golden originally came to Tennessee as a member of the Volunteers 2010 recruiting class, where he was rated as a four-star shooting guard out of McEachern High School in Georgia.
Once in Knoxville, Golden would play an immediate role for the Volunteers as a freshman, starting in 1-of-31 games. Tennessee’s backup point guard that season, Golden would average 3 PPG, 1.1 RPG, and 2 APG, while also shooting 82.5% from the free throw line.
As a sophomore, Golden would enjoy a breakout 2011-12 season for the Volunteers, starting in 33-of-34 games to average 13.6 PPG, 3 RPG, and 4.5 APG. Leading the Volunteers in multiple statistical categories, Golden would also shoot 38.8% from three, as well as 82.8% from the free throw line.
Golden would then continue that success as a junior in 2012-13, averaging 12.1 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 3.9 APG. Receiving SEC Player of the Week honors twice that season, Golden would start in 24-of-31 games for the Volunteers, while also shooting 77.8% from the free throw line.
At the conclusion of the 2012-13 campaign, Golden however would go on to transfer, concluding his collegiate career with a season at Georgia Tech in 2013-14. Bringing an end to his Tennessee basketball career, Golden would start in 58-of-96 games during his time in Knoxville, averaging a combined 9.7 PPG, 2.4 RPG, and 3.6 APG on 80.5% shooting from the free throw line, while also ranking top five in the SEC in APG two of those years.
After a season at Georgia Tech, Golden would go on to be undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft, and has played every season since overseas, most recently in China.
