Georgia Softball: Bulldogs Land Impact Transfer Sarah Gordon
The Georgia Softball program picked up a big early offseason addition on Monday in University of Louisville transfer catcher and reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Sarah Gordon. Gordon played (and started) all 56 games for the Cardinals this past season. She helped lead Louisville to a 36-20 record and a spot in the NCAA tournament (as the 3-seed in the Knoxville regional, where Louisville went 1-2).
Gordon made an immediate impact at Louisville as arguably one of the best Freshmen in the country (as well as one of the top catchers in the nation) this past season. The Lexington, SC native hit .379 on the year with a 1.083 OPS (.379/.422/.661 slash line). Gordon hit 11 HR, 12 doubles, and 2 triples on the year while driving in 49 RBI. She scored 41 runs while going 8-for-8 on stolen bases.
Gordon was named ACC Freshman of the Year and was a first team All-ACC selection in her lone season in Louisville. She was a D1Softball Freshman All-American as well, and was also a third team Softball America All-American. Gordon was the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year in High School back in 2022.
Gordon will have three years of eligibility remaining in Athens.

The Bulldog softball team is coming off a strong season in 2023 in which they were the No. 14 National Seed in the NCAA Tournament after a 42-15 season. UGA made it to Super Regionals (after sweeping through the Athens Regional) before falling to No. 3 National Seed Florida State in the Tallahassee Super Regional.
It will be interesting to see how Gordon enters into the catcher mix for Georgia in 2024 (Gordon was brought in to play, but Georgia still got some solid production at catcher last season). Lyndi Rae Davis and Marisa Miller split the catching duties last year for Georgia. Davis put up a .331/.413/.500 slash line in 30 starts behind the plate (also made 24 more starts as the Designated Player), while Miller put up a .254/.313/.373 slash line in 22 starts at catcher.
It would not surprise me if the plan is for Gordon and Davis to split duties between catcher and Designated Player (with one playing catcher and the other serving as the DP in a game). Gordon also played some 1st base at Louisville if Georgia needs her to play there. Gordon is going to be in the lineup, it might just be a question of whether she plays catcher, 1st base, or serves as the DP.
