Coming off a loaded day for the conference, one that included the 2023 NBA Draft, here are a few things you need to know from across the SEC on Thursday.
LHP Dallas Keuchel signs with Minnesota Twins
According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, veteran left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel has signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins. A former seventh round pick out of Arkansas from the 2009 MLB Draft, the former Cy Young and World Series winner has not pitched so far during the 2023 season.
10 SEC players selected in 2023 NBA Draft
As mentioned previously, the 2023 NBA Draft took place Thursday night, with the SEC seeing a total of 10 players selected across the two rounds. Each of those players, as well as where and when they were drafted, can be found here.
4-star TE Eric Karner commits to Texas A&M
Texas A&M added a commitment to their 2024 class Thursday in Eric Karner, who is the Aggies first tight end commit of the cycle. Karner is rated as a four-star prospect out of Immaculate Conception (IL).
Alabama transfer INF Colby Shelton commits to Florida
One of the top SEC players in the transfer portal, Alabama infielder Colby Shelton committed to Florida on Thursday. Shelton is coming off a freshman season in which he slashed .300/.419/.729 with 25 HR and 51 RBI across 59 games.
Alabama RHP Luke Holman enters transfer portal
Alabama right-handed pitcher Luke Holman officially entered the transfer portal Thursday. One of the Crimson Tide’s top starters this past season, Holman made 16 appearances for Alabama (15 starts), owning a 7-4 record with a 3.67 ERA and 87:31 K:BB ratio across 81 IP.
LSU RHP Paul Skenes breaks SEC single-season strikeout record
LSU right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes officially broke the SEC single-season strikeout record in the Tigers game against Wake Forest on Thursday night. The record was previously held by former LSU pitcher Ben McDonald, who had 202 strikeouts during the 1989 season.
