With the 2023 MLB trade deadline looming Tuesday, here are some of the biggest headlines from across the SEC on Monday.

4-star OT Bennett Warren commits to Tennessee

Tennessee and head coach Josh Heupel have landed a commitment from Bennett Warren, who is now the highest-ranked offensive line commit in the Volunteers 2023 class. Warren is rated as a four-star offensive tackle out of Fort Bend Christian Academy in Texas.

2 SEC programs included in Top 5 for 3-star RB Jason Patterson

Kentucky and Vanderbilt have been included in the top five finalists for Jason Patterson, and were joined by Boston College, Cincinnati, and Rutgers. Patterson is rated as a three-star prospect in the 2024 class out of Sneads High School in Florida.

G Garrett Temple signs with Toronto Raptors

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, free agent guard Garrett Temple has agreed to a one-year deal with the Toronto Raptors. The former LSU guard will be entering his 14th NBA season next year, and recently appeared in 25 games off the bench for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2022-23 to average 2 PPG on 42.3% shooting from three.

LB Deion Jones signs with Carolina Panthers

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, free agent linebacker Deion Jones has signed with the Carolina Panthers. Jones, a one-time Pro Bowl selection, is a former 2016 second round pick out of LSU, and recently started 5-of-11 games a year ago with the Cleveland Browns, amassing 44 tackles, six TFL, 2.5 sacks, one INT, three PD, and one FF.

Canisius transfer INF Max Grant commits to Alabama

Alabama has landed a commitment from Canisius transfer infielder Max Grant, who is the former 2022 MAAC Player of the Year. Grant has spent the past three seasons at Canisius, and comes to Tuscaloosa owning a career .362/.468/.543 slash line with 12 HR, 97 RBI, and 25 SB.

Arizona Diamondbacks INF prospect Ryan Bliss traded to Seattle Mariners

According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Arizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Ryan Bliss has been traded to the Seattle Mariners. Bliss, who was Arizona’s No. 29 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is a former 2021 second round pick out of Auburn, and has slashed .332/.391/.556 with 13 HR, 51 RBI, and 35 SB so far this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

4-star C John Bol commits to Ole Miss

Ole Miss has landed a commitment from John Bol, who had previously been committed to Florida prior to decommitting back in June. Bol is rated as a four-star center in the 2024 class, and plays for Overtime Elite.

Purdue transfer RHP Khal Stephen commits to Mississippi State

Mississippi State has picked up a commitment from right-handed pitcher Khal Stephen, who spent the 2022 season at Purdue. Owning a combined 6.16 ERA across his first two collegiate seasons, Stephen was a Third Team All-Big Ten selection a year ago, making 14 starts for the Boilermakers to own a 7-4 record with a 5.21 ERA and 66:30 K:BB ratio across 76 IP.
