Throughout the month of July 2023, which was a fairly quiet one on the recruiting trail, there were only two SEC basketball programs that landed at-least one commitment on the hardwood – the Ole Miss Rebels and the Vanderbilt Commodores. So, with that thought in mind, here is a look at who both the Rebels and Commodores added during July, as well as where each commit slides into each’s respective class. Ole Miss, Vanderbilt among July 2023 SEC basketball recruiting winners
Ole Miss Rebels
July Commits:
- 4-star C John Bol
Beginning with Ole Miss, the Rebels landed the second commitment of their 2024 class during the month of July 2023 in 7-foot-1 center John Bol, who joins three-star shooting guard Jason Jackson. Bol, a former Florida commit who had previously decommitted from the Gators back in June, is a highly-rated four-star center who plays for Overtime Elite, and is now the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to Ole Miss according to 247Sports.
Looking ahead as well, even though it is still a long way away, Bol is likely to play a significant role for the Rebels during the 2024-25 season as a freshman, and could very easily start for Ole Miss that year at center, should he eventually go on to sign with the program down the road.
Vanderbilt Commodores
July Commits:
- 3-star PG Tyler Tanner
Vanderbilt and head coach Jerry Stackhouse also landed what was the second commitment of their 2024 class during the month of July 2023 in Tyler Tanner, who joins three-star point guard Karris Bilal. Tanner is one of the top players in the state of Tennessee, rated as a three-star point guard out of in-state Brentwood Academy, and gives the Commodores their second player at the position in their 2024 class.
