By Matt Melton
With the start of fall camps across the country this past week, it means that we are now officially only a few weeks away from kickoff of the 2023 season. However, there are some questions that are still left to be answered for a few programs across the SEC as we begin fall camp, one of which comes in Tuscaloosa with Alabama football.
Coming via position battles, here are three in particular to watch for during 2023 fall camp for the Crimson Tide.
3 position battles to watch during 2023 Alabama football fall camp
Quarterback
The most obvious position battle for Alabama entering fall camp, talk surrounding the quarterback position for the Crimson Tide will likely continue into the 2023 season. A competition between the returning Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson, as well as Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner, the question mark for Alabama during fall camp will be whether or not a leader begins to emerge in the coming weeks for the starting job week one.
Offensive Line
Tasked with replacing three starters along the offensive line, there are still questions remaining as to who might start week one for the Crimson Tide alongside the returning JC Latham, Tyler Booker, and Seth McLaughlin. Included in this conversation entering fall camp are returning names such as Darrian Dalcourt, Elijah Pritchett, and Terrence Ferguson II, as well as new faces such as five-star freshman Kadyn Proctor.
Inside Linebacker
As for the final position included on this list, inside linebacker might be one to watch after Henry To’oTo’o moved on to the NFL. Alabama does however return Deontae Lawson at the position, but the competition could come from who starts alongside the redshirt sophomore, with names such as Justin Jefferson, Jihaad Campbell, Trezmen Marshall, and Kendrick Blackshire among those to watch for.
