3. LSU

In the first year under Brian Kelly, the LSU Tigers created a lot of believers in the new regime.

They defeated Alabama on a 2-point conversion and they were actively in the playoff race with two losses late in the season.

This year, success for LSU will come to the surprise of nobody. Ranked at No. 5 in the AP Preseason Poll, the Tigers come into the 2023 season with some serious playoff hopes.

And they are more than capable of building the resume to pull it off.

The Tigers open the season against No. 8 Florida State where they have a chance for revenge and the opportunity to set the tone for the season.

After that, it is a manageable road ahead, with their most formidable foes being made up of division opponents.

The most notable of those opponents is Alabama. But with the way LSU’s schedule is structured, there could be a path to the playoff even if they lose that matchup.

They get Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M to help bolster their strength of record and while they would have to pray Alabama ends with two losses, there is a path for them to sneak in as an 11-1 non conference champion.
