STAR

  1. Tykee Smith (Sr.)
  2. Joenel Aguero (Fr.)

Kamari Lassiter returns for his second year as a starter, and will now be Georgia’s #1 guy on the outside. The starting spot on the opposite side (to replace Kelee Ringo in the lineup) features a competition between 2022 five-star Daylen Everette and 2021 five-star Nyland Green. I predict that Everette will win the job, but as with most positions at Georgia, the Dawgs will rotate a lot.

2022 four-star Julian Humphrey will also be in the mix as the 4th corner (or potentially higher). Five-star freshman AJ Harris is also an option, coming in as the second rated corner in the class of 2023, to earn playing time early in his career. Chris Peal comes in as a four-star from this class with ideal size and speed as he tries to breakthrough in the rotation as well.

At safety, Georgia returns Malaki Starks at free safety after Starks burst onto the scene a year ago with a great freshman season. Javon Bullard is expected to slide over from nickel to starting strong safety after a strong season there a year ago (that he capped off by winning Defensive MVP in both of Georgia’s playoff wins).

At Star, I expect former West Virginia transfer Tykee Smith to finally find his footing at Georgia after an injury riddled first two seasons in Athens, and to beat-out big time freshman Joenel Aguero for the starting spot. However, I expect Aguero to be heavily involved and to be one of Georgia’s top freshmen this season (also wouldn’t be surprised to see him involved at one of the two traditional safety spots as well).

David Daniel-Sisavanh is a veteran in the defensive backfield who should have another season this year of getting solid PT as a rotation piece. JaCorey Thomas was a four-star in the class of 2022 who got limited PT a year ago, but is expected to see a bump up in playing time this season. Dan Jackson, the elder statesman of the group, is still around as a depth and rotation piece. Rhett is another freshman who will look to break into the rotation, and could be heavily involved on special teams.
