Kicker
- Jared Zirkel (Jr.)
- Peyton Woodring (Fr.)
- Liam Badger (R-So.)
One of Georgia football’s few position battles still ongoing is at kicker between returning veteran backup Jared Zirkel and talented freshman Peyton Woodring. I give the edge to Zirkel, but I could see either man winning the job. Badger is a former Kennesaw State transfer who is a depth option.
Punter
- Brett Thorson (So.)
- Noah Jones (R-So.)
Thorson returns after a strong freshman season in which he averaged 45 yards per punt. He also no longer has Stetson Bennett on the team to keep him off the field. Jones returns as the backup depth option behind Thorson.
Long Snapper
- William Mote (Sr.)
- Jonathan Washburn (R-So.)
- Will Snellings (Fr.)
Mote returns as one of the best long-snappers in the SEC and is entering his fourth season as the Dawgs’ starting long snapper on punts. He also handled the field goal snapping duties in 2022. Washburn and Snellings are battling it out for the backup duties behind Mote.
KR
- Daijun Edwards (Sr.)
- Arian Smith (Jr.)
- Mekhi Mews (R-So.)
- Dillon Bell (So.)
With Kearis Jackson off to the NFL, someone else will have to step up as Georgia’s primary kick returner. Edwards was the #2 guy last year, so it makes since for him to get the bump up to being the guy. Smith has dynamite speed and could be dangerous back-deep. Mews and Bell are both exciting receivers who could be options as well.
PR
- Ladd McConkey (Jr.)
- Dominic Lovett (Jr.)
- Mekhi Mews (R-So.)
While it seems he had the yips for a little bit last season, McConkey seems to have settled down as a punt returner. Lovett will also join his fellow starting receiver as an option to return punts. Both players are dangerous with the ball in their hands, but I believe McConkey will open the season as the main guy. As mentioned previously, Mews has earned a mention here as a depth piece at the position.
