SEC Quarterback Power Rankings: Daniels, Jefferson on top in Preseason
4. Devin Leary (Kentucky)
Devin Leary transfers into Kentucky after a strong multi-year stint as the starter for NC State. Leary was limited to just six games a year ago for the Wolfpack due to injury, but still had a solid start to the season before he went down (61.1% completion percentage, 1,265 yards, 11 TD’s, and 4 INT’s). Leary’s best season at NC State came in 2021 when he had a 65.7% completion percentage, 3,433 yards, and 35 TD’s to just 5 INT’s.
Kentucky gets the year started on Saturday afternoon against Ball State at Noon Eastern. While there might be some adjustment to playing in the SEC for Leary, he is one of the more talented QB’s in the conference and has 944 career pass attempts.
3. Will Rogers (Mississippi State)
Will Rogers returns in 2023 already as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in SEC history, and is the most experienced QB in the conference this year with over 1,600 attempts to his name across 35 career games. Last season, Rogers had a 68% completion percentage, 3,974 passing yards, 35 TD’s, and 8 INT’s. Rogers has a chance to break several major SEC passing records this year as well as he is just 2,477 passing yards away from being the record-holder there. He is also 39 passing TD’s away from that record, and is already first all-time in completion percentage.
The Bulldogs open up the Zach Arnett era on Saturday against FCS Southeastern Louisiana at 4:00 pm Eastern in Starkville. While Rogers will have to adjust to a new offensive system, he should once again be one of the SEC’s top QB’s.
