Georgia looks impressive in their game against UT Martin
Georgia was able to dominate in their tune-up game against UT Martin, 48-7. What can Georgia fans take away from this victory?
Georgia was able to control the flow in their tune-up against UT Martin. While they did not blow them out by any metric till late, the Bulldogs were able to take care of their business. The kinks in the offense still need to be figured out, as Georgia ended up punting the ball three times. Two of those punts were three-and-outs, and the other one came after the Bulldogs were only able to get one first down.
Still, the strength of this team will come from the defense. The Skyhawks only scored a TD extremely late in the fourth quarter. At that point, the game was completely over. The strength of this team as it was last season is the defense. In their tune-up game against UT Martin, Georgia showed that they could take care of business.
What can Georgia fans take away from this game?
Of the SEC teams that played tune-up games, Georgia was one of the better teams this weekend. The back-to-back national champs were able to play really well on the defensive side of the ball. As it was the last two seasons, this is the bread and butter that the Georgia Bulldogs will need to win a national title.
They will not be able to get a semi-real test until they play South Carolina in two weeks. Still, you have to give them points for being able to get their stuff together against any school in the country. The only real concern from the game is the team’s offense. It was his first game of the season, but Carson Beck did not look great at times.
The Bulldogs have tons of time to get their passing game right but the running game led by Kendall Milton will be very crucial this season. Beck doesn’t have to make amazing plays but he has to facilitate the offense like Stetson Bennett did. Brock Bowers is one of the best playmakers in the country.
If the Bulldogs want a chance to get another title, Bowers will need to be involved in the offense in a lot of short routes to allow the superstar tight end to get a lot of YAC yards this season. It’s almost impossible to stop the tight end when he gets into space.
In this game, he only ended up having 5 receptions for 77 yards. Considering the opponent, Bowers should have had a lot more yards. Still, the junior is a veteran which means he gets a break where freshmen or sophomores might be more on alert after not destroying a team that is clearly a lot worse than them.
