SEC Football: Tennessee, Arkansas rise in Week 2 2023 power rankings
By Matt Melton
With the 2023 SEC football season having officially begun for the entirety of the conference this past weekend, let’s take a look at which teams rose and fell in our power rankings entering Week 2.
Tennessee, Arkansas rise in Week 2 2023 SEC football power rankings
14. Vanderbilt Commodores
Previous Ranking: 14
We begin this week with preseason No. 14 in Vanderbilt, as the Commodores defeated Alabama A&M by a final score of 47-13 on Saturday night, which also came after a 35-28 home win over Hawaii in Week 0. A game in which the Commodores led 12-3 at halftime, Vanderbilt would own the second half Saturday night by outscoring Alabama A&M, 35-10, to pull away.
SEC football’s lone 2-0 team at the moment, Vanderbilt will be set for their first road test of the 2023 season in Week 2, as the Commodores travel to Wake Forest.
13. Florida Gators
Previous Ranking: 12
The first team to drop a spot this week are the Florida Gators, as they fall from No. 13 to No. 12 as a result of their 24-11 road loss at Utah. A game in which the Gators never led, Florida would not find the end zone until the fourth quarter, and would struggle throughout to establish the running game Thursday night, as they only racked up 13 rushing yards on 21 combined attempts.
Now sitting at 0-1 on the year, Florida will open their home slate in Week 2, as the Gators are set to host McNeese in Gainesville.
