10. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Previous Ranking: 10
Also remaining at No. 10 are the Mississippi State Bulldogs, as they opened the Zach Arnett era at home with a 48-7 win over Southeastern Louisiana. This would be a strong offensive showing for the Bulldogs by posting 525 yards of total offense, while also shutting out the Lions in the second half, 28-0.
The Bulldogs (1-0) will now play one of the conference’s more intriguing matchups in Week 2, as Mississippi State will host Arizona in Starkville.
9. South Carolina Gamecocks
Previous Ranking: 8
Falling a spot from No. 8 to No. 9 is South Carolina, as the Gamecocks fell to North Carolina in a neutral-site matchup in Charlotte, NC, 31-17. Trailing by three at halftime, the Gamecocks would be outscored 14-3 in the second half, and struggled to run the ball overall Saturday night, as they amassed only -2 yards on the ground.
Now sitting at 0-1 for the season, South Carolina will open their home schedule in Week 2, as they host Furman.
