With a full week of the college football season under our belts, we have finally gotten at least a glimpse at every team and every starting quarterback in the SEC. It was not a perfect week for the conference or it’s QB’s, but there were a lot of positives. With that being said, as we head into Week 2, here are our latest SEC Quarterback Power Rankings.

Also, now that we know who every starter is in the SEC (to open the season at least), we will expand our list from the top 10 to a full 14 which we will keep for the remainder of the season.

Jalen Milroe, Conner Weigman move up in Week 2 SEC Quarterback Power Rankings

14. Graham Mertz (Florida)

Previous ranking: Outside preseason top 10

I almost feel bad ranking Mertz at the bottom spot, because he actually had one of the more prolific Week 1 games within the SEC. However, this is just as much about how bad the Florida offense looked for the majority of the game as it is anything. In Florida’s loss to Utah, Mertz was 31-of-44 passing for 333 yards, along with 1 TD and 1 INT (which hit his receiver in the hands). Mertz was far from the reason the Gators lost, but he did not exactly impress either.

Florida will take on FCS McNeese on Saturday night at 7:30 Eastern in Gainesville as the Gators hope to get their offensive flow going after a tough opening game. Florida will be heavy favorites in a bounce-back opportunity.

13. Payton Thorne (Auburn)

Previous ranking: Outside preseason top 10

While Thorne potentially missed out on a couple TD’s due to Auburn’s redzone sets for Robby Ashford (which could hinder Thorne’s numbers this season), he still had a productive day. Thorne was 10-of-17 passing for 141 yards and 1 TD on the day as Auburn raced past UMass 59-14.

Auburn has a VERY long road-trip ahead of them this weekend as they trek out to the west coast to take on Cal at 10:30 pm Eastern Saturday night. This will be a step up in competition for Thorne and the Tigers as they take on a Power 5 opponent.
