SEC Quarterback Power Rankings: Jalen Milroe, Conner Weigman move up entering Week 2
12. Brady Cook (Missouri)
Previous ranking: Outside preseason top 10
It wasn’t the flashiest performance for Cook or Missouri (who beat South Dakota 35-10 on Thursday), but the Tigers did what they needed to do. Cook went 17-of-21 passing for 172 passing yards, 17 rushing yards, and 2 total TD’s for Mizzou in the win. While Cook is a returning starter, he still might have to keep watching over his shoulder for now with Sam Horn behind him.
Up next, Missouri takes on Middle Tennessee on Saturday night (7:00 pm Eastern) as the Blue Raiders take on their second straight SEC opponent. Cook could use a big performance to give himself some confidence, and to quiet the whispers about a QB controversy.
11. AJ Swann (Vanderbilt)
Previous ranking: 9
Swann moves down a couple spots in our rankings, but it doesn’t really have anything to do with him (just more-so to do with a couple other guys playing well). It was a sluggish start for Vandy (led 5-3 after the 1st Quarter) in their second game of the season (they played Week 0 remember), but the ‘Dores ultimately ended up beating Alabama A&M 47-13. Swann went for 15-of-29 passing, 194 passing yards, 24 rushing yards, 3 total TD’s, and 1 INT on the afternoon. Through two games on the season Swann has a 57.6% completion percentage (34-of-59 passing), 452 passing yards, 5 passing TD’s, 1 rushing TD, and 1 INT.
Next week is the biggest non-conference game of the year for Vandy as they take on Wake Forest at 11:00 am Eastern on Saturday. If Swann can lead Vanderbilt to victory, it will go a long way towards the ‘Dores eventual hopes of bowl eligibility.
