SEC Quarterback Power Rankings: Jalen Milroe, Conner Weigman move up entering Week 2
4. Devin Leary (Kentucky)
Previous ranking: 4
Kentucky struggled early (trailed 7-3 after the 1st Quarter), but then quickly pulled away to knock off Ball State 44-14. Leary was solid in his Kentucky debut, but did not really show everything that he is capable of. He went 18-of-31 passing with 241 passing yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.
Kentucky will be favored and expected to win big again this week as they take on FCS Eastern Kentucky at 3:00 pm Eastern. The Wildcats will hope to continue to get Leary acclimated to the offense, and to grow the groups chemistry.
3. Will Rogers (Mississippi State)
Previous ranking: 3
In his first game in a new offensive system, Rogers played well as Mississippi State pulled away to beat Southeastern Louisiana 48-7. Rogers was 20-of-29 passing for 227 yards and 2 TD’s. Mississippi State ran the ball more (and with more success) than we’ve seen in the past, but the passing game remained strong.
After traveling out west last year, Mississippi State will welcome Arizona to the southeast this week at 7:30 pm Eastern on Saturday. Even though Mississippi State will be favored, this is a Power Five opponent and a step up in competition. The Bulldogs will hope that Rogers and the offense can have another successful week as the group looks to start 2-0.
