2. KJ Jefferson (Arkansas)

Previous ranking: 2

Arkansas didn’t need too much from Jefferson as they blew out Western Carolina 56-13, but Jefferson still played well. Jefferson was 18-of-23 passing for 246 yards and 4 total TD’s (3 passing, 1 rushing). Jefferson has put himself within striking distance of the top spot in our power rankings, and has a chance to move up with some more strong performances.

Arkansas are heavy favorites once again this week as they take on MAC-foe Kent State on Saturday afternoon (4:00 pm Eastern) in Fayetteville. While the schedule gets substantially tougher from here, this will be another potential confidence-booster for Jefferson and the Razorbacks.

1. Jayden Daniels (LSU)

Previous ranking: 1

Daniels stays atop our power rankings for now, but the gap between him and Jefferson is not very large. It was a very forgettable second half for LSU in their opening game as they fell 45-24 to Florida State on Sunday night (after giving up a 31-0 run to open up the 2nd half), but it was not necessarily Daniels’ fault that the wheels fell off. He went 22-of-37 passing for 347 passing yards, 64 rushing yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT in the game. It wasn’t a perfect game from Daniels, but he is far from the reason that LSU lost. With that being said, for now he did enough to stay atop our power rankings.

The Tigers will look to get back on track this week as they take on FCS Grambling. There are a lot of questions right now about LSU, but the best thing this week might be a quiet but impressive blowout win to help steady things back up to where they were preseason.
