Ole Miss defeated Tulane 37-20 last week to improve to 2-0 on the young season. This week Lane Kiffin and company welcome the ACC’s Georgia Tech to Oxford, MS for their first Power 5 match-up of the season. The Yellow Jackets are coming off their first win of the season after defeating South Carolina State 48-13 at home last week.

Ole Miss vs. Georgia Tech: Week 3 Preview, Prediction

The Rebels have risen to #17 in the polls and could have their biggest test of the young season against a Georgia Tech team whose only loss was a 39-35 nail-biter against Louisville in the season opener. Ole Miss is looking to have another strong showing as this is their last contest before beginning the SEC competition.

Both team’s defenses will be tested in this game. Georgia Tech is averaging 533 total yards per game this season and averaging 41 points per game. Ole Miss has been impressive offensively this season also with 511 total yards per game and 55 points per contest. The respective quarterbacks are coming into this game with near-identical stats. Tech’s Haynes King has thrown for 603 yards with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Likewise, the Rebels’ Jaxson Dart has put 601 yards to go along with 6 touchdowns and also only 1 interception.

The Rebels are favored to defend their home field against a Yellow Jackets program which is in a rebuilding process as coach Brent Key is in his first full season as head coach. Coach Kiffin looks to continue to rise in the polls as they try to make waves in the SEC West.

Despite the fact that both of these schools in the Deep South have been playing football since the 1800s, this will be only the 6th meeting of the two programs. This will be only the third regular season match-up of the two programs since 1946. Ole Miss has won the last three meetings, including last year’s 42-0 victory.

The Rebels are favored by 18 coming into this game and that may be accurate. That being said, Georgia Tech appears to have an offense that maybe can close that gap.

Prediction: Ole Miss 37 Georgia Tech 24
