With SEC football play having now officially begun for almost all teams across the conference, let’s take a look at the latest update of our 2023 power rankings as we enter Week 5.

Kentucky, Missouri rise in Week 5 2023 SEC football power rankings

14. Vanderbilt Commodores

Previous Ranking: 14

This week’s update begins once again at No. 14 with Vanderbilt, as the Commodores dropped their third consecutive game Saturday by falling at home to Kentucky, 45-28. A game where Vanderbilt trailed 21-0 at the end of the first quarter, as well as committed four turnovers, the Commodores would go on to outscore the Wildcats a combined 28-24 across the remainder of the contest, but would not be enough to comeback.

Now sitting at 2-3 overall for the season, as well as 0-1 in SEC play, the Commodores will remain at home this Saturday for a matchup against Missouri.

13. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Previous Ranking: 13

Also remaining at No. 13 to begin this update is Mississippi State, as the Bulldogs dropped their second-straight game by falling at South Carolina, 37-30. A game in which Mississippi State had 487 passing yards, the Bulldogs and Gamecocks would be tied entering the fourth quarter, but would be outscored in the game’s final frame, 10-3.

Off to an 0-2 start to SEC football play, Mississippi State (2-2) will now return home this Saturday for a matchup against Alabama.
