A former top prospect out of high school, Daimion Collins has spent the past two seasons seeing a limited amount of action with the Kentucky Wildcats. Having however transferred within the SEC during the offseason, what will Collins’ impact look like during the 2023-24 season at LSU?

LSU Basketball 2023-24 Season Preview: F Daimion Collins

As mentioned above, Collins was originally a highly-rated prep prospect in the 2021 class, rated as a five-star power forward out of Atlanta (TX). The top player in the state of Texas, Collins was also the nation’s No. 16 overall prospect in that class according to the 247Sports Composite, and went on to commit to Kentucky.

Once in Lexington, Collins would start in 1-of-27 games as a freshman for the Wildcats, averaging 2.9 PPG and 2 RPG on 57.7% shooting from the field, as well as 85.7% from the free throw line. On an average of only 7.4 MPG, Collins would go on to see a similar amount of action a year ago in the 2022-23 season by starting in 1-of-25 games, averaging 1.9 PPG and 1.9 RPG on 7.9 MPG.

At the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign, Collins would go on to enter the transfer portal, and would shortly after commit to LSU. Now expected to be a big part of the Tigers 2023-24 roster, what might Collins’ first season in Baton Rouge look like?

LSU F Daimion Collins 2023-24 Season Prediction: 7.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 0.9 APG, 0.8 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 49.8 FG%, 74.3 FT%

When looking at the former five-star’s 2023-24 season outlook, Collins is likely set for a breakout campaign with the Tigers.

A career 2.4 PPG scorer, Collins is a talented forward with big upside at 6-foot-9 who should play a significant role in the Tigers frontcourt this season, potentially in a starting role. Yes, even despite having not seen a lot of action across the last two seasons at Kentucky, Collins could easily start games for LSU in 2023-24.

An impact player on both ends of the floor, Collins should be among the Tigers top rebounders this season, and will certainly make an impact on the offensive end around the rim, whether that being put-backs or catching lobs. Defensively, Collins will make an impact on the boards, as well as rank among LSU’s top shot blockers where he will certainly post a career-high.

Overall, expect a strong 2023-24 season for Collins, one in which he is among LSU’s top players.
