SEC Football: Milroe, Dart rise in Week 5 QB Power Rankings
12. Graham Mertz (Florida)
Previous Ranking: 11
Graham Mertz had a fine day, but he drops a spot in our power rankings both because of performances elsewhere and because Florida struggled as a whole offensively and failed to put away Charlotte in a 22-7 win. Mertz ended up going an efficient 20-of-23 in the game for 259 yards, 1 TD, and 0 INT’s. For the season, Mertz has a 77.8% completion percentage (84/108 passing), 951 passing yards, 6 total TD’s (4 passing, 2 rushing), and 1 INT.
In Week 5, Mertz and Florida will head on the road to take on Devin Leary and Kentucky in a huge game in the SEC East at Noon Eastern on Saturday.
11. Jalen Milroe (Alabama)
Previous Ranking: 12
I talked last week about Milroe having the chance to clamp down the starting quarterback position at Alabama, and he did that while also moving up a spot. He did so not just in leading Alabama to a big 24-10 win over Ole Miss, but also in the improved leadership he showed the week before as well. In the game on Saturday, Milroe was mostly good as he went 17-of-21 through the air for 225 passing yards, 28 rushing yards, 1 passing TD, and 1 INT. While the interception was not a good one, it was one of Milroe’s better performances that we’ve seen. On the year, Milroe has a 66.7% completion percentage (44/66 passing) for 674 passing yards, 120 rushing yards, 8 total TD’s (6 passing, 2 rushing), and 3 INT’s through three games.
Milroe will have a tough road test ahead of him this week as he takes on Mississippi State, who are led by QB Will Rogers on the other side, at 9:00 pm Eastern in Starkville.
