SEC football began it’s 2023 season with some close matchups and a few upsets to boot. One main one was the Florida Gators defeating the Tennessee Volunteers in Gainesville, 29-16.

Now that we’re in the thick of the SEC schedule, expect even more upsets to ensue.

Here are my SEC football upset predictions for the month of October:

4 Potential SEC football upsets to watch for during October

Western Michigan @ Mississippi State (10/7/23): The Bulldogs are struggling so far this season under first year head coach Zach Arnett. After beginning the season 2-0, the Bulldogs have lost their first 3 SEC contests. And only one of them in South Carolina was close against a Gamecocks team that’s also struggling at this point in the season. The Western Michigan Broncos are also struggling coming into this contest at 2-3, but come off of a 42-24 win over Ball State. And any chance to play an SEC team as a non-power 5 always has their players excited. With the Bulldogs feeling like they have little to play for by this point in the season, look for the Broncos to stun the Bulldogs in Starkville, and therefore questions about Zach Arnett’s job security to arise.

Alabama @ Texas A&M (10/7/23): Look for the Aggies to conquer the Tide. With the Tide being favored by around 2.5 points as of right now, this isn’t a huge upset, but an upset, nonetheless. While Alabama sits at 11th in the country at 4-1, the Aggies are also 4-1 even though they’re unranked. So the discrepancy in talent based upon ranking doesn’t meet the eye on this one. Therefore, with a raucous crowd in College Station, look for the Aggies to round into form and improve to 5-1 on the season as they look to make a run at the SEC West.

Ole Miss @ Auburn (10/21/23): Jordan-Hare is never an easy place to play. Magic for the Tigers tends to always surface. Look for this to be somewhat of a trap game for Ole Miss who should continue to take care of business up to this point with their only conference loss being to Alabama, and wins against Arkansas and LSU. The Tigers don’t seem to yet have things figured out on offense, but watch for them to steer more towards backup quarterback Robby Ashford who brings another dynamic to the offense as a dual threat.

Georgia vs. Florida (10/28/23): The World’s Largest Tailgate in Jacksonville, Florida will have plenty of fireworks surrounding it this year with the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs looking to continue their reign over the rivaled Florida Gators in this annual affair. The Bulldogs have showed signs of vulnerability so far this season however, and the Gators appear to have rounded a corner upsetting the Vols at home. Look for this to be nothing more than a potential “trap game” for the Bulldogs with the Gators playing high with motivation for this intense rivalry which could see the Bulldogs coming in undefeated.

Upsets across college football are guaranteed to be a plenty in the month of October like they were in September, so the SEC should be playing it’s part in that. Check back next month for my November SEC football upset predictions.
