One of SEC football’s top matchups this weekend comes in Lexington, KY, where the Kentucky Wildcats host the Missouri Tigers in SEC East action. A head-to-head matchup that Kentucky has owned recently, the Wildcats have won seven of the last eight meetings between the two, with Missouri’s lone win coming back in 2020.

Beginning with a look at Kentucky, the Wildcats are ranked as the nation’s No. 24 overall team in the latest AP Poll, and are sitting at 5-1 overall, as well as 2-1 in SEC play. Led by head coach Mark Stoops, the Wildcats are coming off their first loss of the 2023 season, as they fell on the road at Georgia by a final score of 51-13.

Led by quarterback Devin Leary, the Wildcats offense is averaging 33 PPG, and have one of the conference’s top running backs in Ray Davis, who has rushed for 653 yards and eight touchdowns so far in 2023. The Wildcats also have three clear primary targets at wide receiver, which includes the trio of Tayvion Robinson, Dane Key, and Barion Brown.

Kentucky’s defense is allowing 21.2 PPG to opponents, and are led by defensive back Maxwell Hairston with a team-high 41 tackles, as well as four INT’s. The Wildcats also have two other 30+ tacklers in D’Eyrk Jackson and Trevin Wallace, with others such as Andru Phillips and Alex Afari Jr. not far behind.

As for Missouri, the Tigers, who are led by head coach Eli Drinkwitz, come to Lexington sitting at 5-1 overall, as well as 1-1 in SEC play. The Tigers are also coming off their first loss of the 2023 season, falling at home to LSU by a final score of 49-39.

Averaging 33.2 PPG, Missouri’s offense is led by quarterback Brady Cook, as well as one of the SEC’s top wide receivers in Luther Burden, who has 54 receptions for 793 yards and five scores so far this season. Theo Wease, Mookie Cooper, and Marquis Johnson are also names to know in the receiving game, while Cody Schrader and Nathaniel Peat headline the Tigers rushing attack.

Defensively, Missouri is allowing 25.5 PPG to opponents, and are led in tackles by linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper with 35. The Tigers also have a few others with at-least 25+ tackles so far this season, a group that includes Joseph Charleston, Kris Abrams-Draine, Daylan Carnell, and Johhny Walker Jr..

According to FanDuel, Kentucky is a 2.5-point favorite over Missouri as of Thursday afternoon. The over/under is at 50.5, with Kentucky at -142, as well as Missouri at +118.
