Oscar Delp

Delp is the obvious here, as he is the direct positional replacement for Bowers. Delp, a sophomore out of Cumming, Ga., has served as the #2 TE in Georgia’s offense through the first six weeks of the year, but will now have to step up as the #1 tight end in an offense that loves to utilize their tight ends.

So far, Delp has totals of 13 catches, 160 receiving yards, and 2 TD’s on the year. Those are good numbers for a TE2, but Delp will now be thrust into the limelight as THE GUY at the position. The plan was for Delp to step into the TE1 role next year when Bowers heads off to the NFL, but that timeline has now gotten expedited. Delp is a really good player, but he’s tasked with replacing the best player in the country at their position. That won’t be easy. Georgia will need just about everyone else to step up on offense, but there will be a lot of pressure on Delp (especially in this offense).

Georgia running so many two tight end sets is a good thing on one hand because it means Delp has gotten a lot of playing time. The other side of it though is that now Georgia will essentially have to replace two tight ends. Bowers as TE1 and Delp as TE2. Because of that, the Dawgs will also now need true freshmen Pearce Spurlin III and Lawson Luckie to step up, as one of them will now step into the TE2 role vacated by Delp. They’re both very talented (were the No. 2 and No. 8 ranked TE’s in the class of 2023 respectively), but will now have to step up quicker than expected as young freshmen.
