Dominic Lovett

When Georgia brought Lovett in from Missouri out of the Transfer Portal in the offseason, they expected him to be a key piece. I mean, he’s a former No. 1 receiver from an SEC East rival and was a top 3 receiver in the portal. However, his importance has grown more than just about anyone expected. With the aforementioned McConkey out for the first 4 weeks, Lovett had to step up quickly. And now with Bowers out, Lovett will have to step up once again.

Lovett did that on Saturday as Georgia was tasked with playing 2.5 quarters without Bowers, with Lovett having his best game of the season so far. Lovett ended up going for 9 catches, 72 yards, and 1 TD. Overall for the year now, Lovett has 31 catches, 282 yards, and 1 TD. Up to this point, Lovett has mainly been featured in the short-passing game, and while I expect that to continue, I also expect that he will now be involved more in the down-the-field passing attack. Last year, Lovett averaged 15.1 yards per catch, but that number is down at 9.1 this year. While it might not be all the way at 15.1, I expect that number to rise.

Lovett is a guy capable of being a go-to #1 receiver (he was that for Missouri last year when he had 56 catches for 846 yards). There was some complaints among fans about Lovett’s usage (or lack-thereof) early in the year, but he will now be a key piece of Georgia football’s offense.
