SEC Football: Mertz, Rattler rise in Week 8 QB Power Rankings

With another week of SEC Football under our belts, here is this week’s SEC Quarterback Power Rankings:

Mertz, Rattler rise in Week 8 SEC football quarterback power rankings

14. Payton Thorne/Robby Ashford (Auburn)

Previous Ranking: 14

Auburn improved some passing-wise from where they had been, but it wasn’t enough overall as they fell to LSU 48-18. Payton Thorne went 12/23 passing for 102 passing yards and also ran for 27 yards (no TD’s or INT’s). Robby Ashford had arguably his best game of the season as he went 3/4 through the air for 52 passing yards, 19 rushing yards, and 1 passing TD.

For the season, Thorne now has a 60.7% completion percentage (71/117 passing), 745 passing yards, 225 rushing yards, 6 total TD’s (4 passing, 2 rushing), and 4 INT’s. Ashford has a 50% completion percentage (11/22 passing), 123 passing yards, 153 rushing yards, 7 total TD’s (2 passing, 5 rushing), and 0 INT’s.

Auburn will look to get back on track this week against Jaxson Dart and Ole Miss at 7:00 pm Eastern on Saturday.

13. Ken Seals/AJ Swann (Vanderbilt)

Previous Ranking: 13

Vandy hung around against No. 1 Georgia, but ultimately fell 37-20. Ken Seals played well in the loss, going 19/29 through the air for 201 yards, 2 TD’s, and 1 INT. Seals currently has a 61.9% completion percentage (65/105 passing), 836 passing yards, 9 total TD’s (8 passing, 1 rushing), and 2 INT’s on the year. Meanwhile, AJ Swann still has a 53.8% completion percentage (93/173 passing), 1,290 passing yards, 12 total TD’s (11 passing, 1 rushing), and 7 INT’s as he still recovers from injury.

Vanderbilt heads into the first of their two bye weeks on the season in Week 8.
