Peyton Woodring is a name Georgia Bulldogs fans’ are beginning to embrace in their great line of field goal kickers in Athens. The three-star and top rated place kicker from the 2023 recruiting class began this past season for the Bulldogs making four out of his first seven attempts. Furthermore, most of these kicks weren’t in exactly pressure-packed situations with two of these opponents being UT Martin and Ball State. Woodring’s long in those three contents combined was 35 yards.

Given the fact that the Lafayette, Louisiana native was such a high recruit, the first few games were quite puzzling; especially since Woodring’s career longest kick in high school was 60 yards, which according to www.georgiadogs.com stood for over 20 years. Since those first few games however, Woodring has turned the corner. In his last three games combined, Woodring hasn’t missed a kick going eight for eight in attempts and increasing his season long to 44 yards. The three opponents is worth noting as well being that they were all in the SEC, so in theory more pressure-packed situations. Woodring on the season is now 35 for 35 on PAT’s as well.

The Bulldogs have had a long line of successful place kickers with names like Rodrigo Blankenship, Blair Walsh and Drew Butler to name a few.

This is a promising sign for head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs as it looks more-so now like they’re getting what they recruited for. Time will tell if Woodring continues on the upswing, but he definitely has the legacy of strong Bulldogs kickers in his favor.

It’s obvious as well given the fact that Smart used a scholarship on Woodring that placekicking has an emphasis on it, and therefore one would think the day-to-day coaching is on that level as well. In an age with so many high-powered offenses, the emphasis on recruiting for and making sure your placekickers are among the nations elite isn’t top of mind for all. But it’s apparent that it is in Athens. Hopefully for the Dawgs this continues to bear fruit.
