Payton Thorne leads the Auburn Tigers to a victory over Mississippi State
The Auburn Tigers dominated against Mississippi State in a game that was not really a game from the start. Should Auburn start to make their bowl plans?
The Auburn Tigers were able to beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 27-13. Payton Thorne was able to throw for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns on his way to a nice win for the squad. Despite the close score in this game, it seemed like Mississippi State was unable to really respond to the Tigers’ offense.
The Tigers would go into the half of this game up 24-3. The Bulldogs would end up scoring a field goal and touchdown in the third quarter of this game but the Tigers defense had this game in control in the second half.
With two more victories to go before they are able to be bowl-eligible, is Auburn bowl-bound?
While New Mexico State is a better team than Auburn probably expected them to be when they scheduled them, there is a clear road to a bowl for the Tigers. Auburn is facing off against a weak Vanderbilt and Arkansas squad in their next two games.
If the Tigers are able to take care of business against two poor SEC schools, they won’t even need to beat New Mexico State. (Yes, the Tigers are playing Alabama to end the season but they aren’t winning that game).
Even if Auburn is unable to beat one of the two SEC schools, they should have a good chance to beat New Mexico State. To be quite honest, it’s hard to compare these two schools due to the fact that both of these schools have played widely different opponents.
Hawaii and UMass were able to beat New Mexico State which clearly shows that the Tigers can compete with New Mexico State if they need that win to get to a bowl game. For a team that won five games last season, a bowl game is an improvement.
