A pair of SEC football heavyweights meet Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, as Alabama hosts LSU in a matchup with key SEC West implications. Both the Crimson Tide and Tigers have split the last four meetings between the two programs, with LSU having won last season’s contest in Baton Rouge by a final score of 32-31.

Led by head coach Nick Saban, Alabama enters Saturday ranked as the nation’s No. 8 team in the latest AP Poll, and are sitting at 7-1 overall for the year, as well as unbeaten atop the SEC West at 5-0 in conference play. The Crimson Tide are coming off a bye week, and have won each of their last six games.

Alabama comes into this weekend averaging 30.6 PPG offensively, and are led by quarterback Jalen Milroe, who has accounted for 18 total touchdowns so far this season. The Crimson Tide also have two primary running backs offensively in Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams, along with a few primary pass catchers in Jermaine Burton, Isaiah Bond, Amari Niblack, and Kobe Prentice.

Defensively, Alabama is one of the SEC’s top teams on that side of the ball allowing 16.5 PPG to opponents, and are led in tackles by freshman safety Caleb Downs with 63 total. The Crimson Tide also have four others with at-least 40+ tackles in Deontae Lawson, Jaylen Key, Terrion Arnold, and Trezmen Marshall, while Alabama also has one of SEC football’s top pass rushing duos in Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell.

Special teams is also a big strength for the Crimson Tide, as Alabama has one of the conference’s top duos in kicker Will Reichard, who has yet to miss a kick this season, and punter James Burnip. Kendrick Law is the primary kickoff returner for the Crimson Tide, while star cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry returns the punts.

Led by head coach Brian Kelly, LSU comes to Tuscaloosa ranked as the nation’s No. 13 team in the AP Poll, and are sitting at 6-2 overall for the year, as well as 4-1 in SEC play. The Tigers are also coming off a bye week, and are currently on a three-game winning streak.

LSU’s offense currently ranks No. 1 nationally with an average of 47.4 PPG, and are led by one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Jayden Daniels, who owns a 73.1 CMP% with 2,573 yards and a 25:3 TD:INT ratio across eight games. The Tigers also own arguably the SEC’s most productive wide receiver duo in Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., who have combined for 1,600+ yards and 20 touchdowns so far this year, while the running game is headlined by Logan Diggs.

On defense, LSU is allowing 26.5 PPG to opponents, and have two players at 50+ tackles for the season so far in Greg Penn III and Major Burns. The top pass rusher for the Tigers is linebacker Harold Perkins at eight TFL and three sacks, while others such as Andre Sam, Zy Alexander, Whit Weeks, and Omar Speights are all names to know.

LSU’s special teams features Damian Ramos, who has yet to miss an extra point this season, at kicker, while Jay Bramblett is the Tigers punter. Kaleb Jackson has been LSU’s primary kickoff returner this season, while Gregory Clayton Jr. has returned the most punts.

Alabama vs. LSU Line, Spread, Over/Under

Alabama vs. LSU SEC Football Prediction

While the Tigers do currently own the nation’s highest-ranked scoring offense, LSU has likely not faced a defense as talented as Alabama’s so far this season. Yes, the Tigers will still put up their points on the scoreboard, but I’ll say that Alabama gets stops late when they need to, and being combined with a solid game from quarterback Jalen Milroe, gives the Crimson Tide a massive win that puts Atlanta and the SEC Championship Game firmly within their sight. Prediction: Alabama 33, LSU 27
