The top two teams in the SEC East will officially meet Saturday afternoon in Athens, as the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs host the Missouri Tigers in a SEC football clash. Missouri has defeated Georgia only once since making the move to the SEC (41-26 victory in 2013), with the Bulldogs currently owning a nine-game winning streak in the series dating back to 2014.

Beginning with a look at Georgia, the Bulldogs are currently ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall team according to the initial College Football Playoff rankings, and are sitting undefeated at 8-0 overall, as well as 5-0 in conference play atop the SEC East. Led by head coach Kirby Smart, the Bulldogs are currently riding a lengthy winning streak, as they have not lost since the 2021 SEC Championship Game.

Offensively, the Bulldogs rank No. 7 nationally with an average of 40.5 PPG, and are led on that side of the ball by quarterback Carson Beck, who combines with a talented group of receivers in the likes of Dominic Lovett, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Rara Thomas, Ladd McConkey, and Oscar Delp. The running game is headlined by Daijun Edwards, who has rushed for eight touchdowns across six games, while Kendall Milton is also a name to know.

Georgia’s defense also ranks No. 7 nationally by allowing only 14.8 PPG to opponents, as well as an average of 272.1 yards per game. The Bulldogs have two players with 30+ tackles so far this season in Smael Mondon Jr. and Tykee Smith, along with others to know including Malaki Starks, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Javon Bullard, and Kamari Lassiter.

Special teams for Georgia is headlined by Peyton Woodring at kicker, while Brett Thorson is the Bulldogs punter. Georgia also has one of the SEC’s top returners in Mekhi Mews, who handles the kickoff and punt return duties for the Bulldogs.

As for Missouri, the Tigers are ranked as the nation’s No. 12 team in the College Football Playoff rankings, and are sitting at 7-1 overall for the year, as well as 3-1 in SEC play. Led by head coach Eli Drinkwitz, Missouri has won their last two games, with their lone loss this season having come at home against LSU, 49-39.

Averaging 33.9 PPG, the Tigers offense is led by quarterback Brady Cook, as well as one of the conference’s top wide receivers in Luther Burden, who has 905 yards and six touchdowns on 61 receptions so far this season. In addition to Burden, Theo Wease, Mookie Cooper, and Marquis Johnson are the top wideouts, while Cody Schrader headlines the rushing attack.

Missouri defensively is allowing 23.2 PPG to opponents, and have two 40+ tacklers in the duo of Ty’Ron Hopper and Joseph Charleston. Kris Abrams-Draine also leads the Tigers with four INT’s this season, while others such as Daylan Carnell, Jaylon Carlies, Darius Robinson, and Johhny Walker Jr. are names to know.

The kicking duties for Missouri are handled by Harrison Mevis, while the Tigers have used two punters this season in Luke Bauer and Riley Williams. Multiple different players have also seen time at kickoff returner this season, while the aforementioned Burden returns the punts.

As of Thursday afternoon, Georgia is a 15.5-point favorite over Missouri, with the over/under at 56.5 according to FanDuel. The Bulldogs are at -780, while Missouri sits at +530.

In what is a Top 15 matchup nationally between SEC East programs, the pick to win goes to the Georgia Bulldogs on their home field. However, this game should be close in the first half, with Georgia eventually pulling away at some point within the third or fourth quarters to win by at-least 10+ points. Prediction: Georgia 35, Missouri 17
