12. Vanderbilt Commodores

Sitting at No. 12 in our 2023-24 SEC basketball preseason power rankings are the Vanderbilt Commodores, who are entering year No. 5 under head coach Jerry Stackhouse.

The Commodores are coming off one of their best single-seasons in recent memory, finishing last season at 22-15 overall, as well as 11-7 in SEC play. This would be Vanderbilt’s first 20-win year since the 2014-15 campaign (21-14 overall), with their SEC win-total of 11 the highest since the same record during the 2015-16 season.

A team that averaged 71.9 PPG last season, while also allowing 71.5 PPG, Vanderbilt will have to replace two double-digit scorers this season in Liam Robbins and Jordan Wright, who were both also the Commodores top two rebounders. Also included in the lost production for Vanderbilt are multiple others that include Myles Stute, Trey Thomas, and Quentin Millora-Brown.

Returning for Vanderbilt are two double-digit scorers in Tyrin Lawrence and Ezra Manjon, while a few others such as Colin Smith and Paul Lewis are also back. Joining that group are also the likes of Notre Dame transfer Ven-Allen Lubin and Lehigh transfer Evan Taylor, among multiple other newcomers.

The Commodores will open the 2023-24 season at home November 7 against Presbyterian.
