As we approach the midway point of non-conference play, let’s take a look at, and update, our 2023-24 SEC basketball power rankings for the first time this season after action that included “Feast Week,” as well as the 2023-24 ACC/SEC Challenge.

Kentucky, South Carolina rise in latest 2023-24 SEC basketball power rankings

14. Vanderbilt Commodores

Previous Ranking: 12

Beginning our first update of the 2023-24 SEC basketball season is Vanderbilt, who drops two spots from No. 12 to No. 14. After a rough start to the season by losing at home to Presbyterian, the Commodores would bounce back with three-straight wins over SC Upstate, UNC Greensboro, and Central Arkansas, but have since lost three-straight to NC State, Arizona State, and Boston College.

Now sitting at 3-4 overall as the lone SEC basketball team under-.500, Vanderbilt has home matchups against Alabama A&M, San Francisco, Western Carolina, and Dartmouth remaining on their non-conference schedule. The Commodores will also face Texas Tech on a neutral-court, as well as travel to Memphis.

13. LSU Tigers

Previous Ranking: 13

Another team who had a disappointing start to begin the 2023-24 season, LSU remains in the No. 13 spot in this update. After beating Mississippi Valley State in their season opener, LSU would fall to both Nicholls State and Dayton, but then bounced back with three-straight wins over North Texas, Wake Forest, and North Florida before recently falling on the road at Syracuse.

Now sitting at 4-3 overall, remaining on LSU’s non-conference schedule are five home matchups against Southeastern Louisiana, Kansas State, Alabama State, Lamar, and Northwestern State. The Tigers will also face Texas on a neutral-court.
