Jason Whitten is a vol for life. Although Witten’s college career was not eye-popping numbers wise, he was a great blocker on the field and more than serviceable as a pass catcher as well. Witten had 797 yards receiving and seven touchdowns during his three years in Knoxville, before leaving to be drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

Witten would go on to play 17 years in the NFL, 16 of which were with the Cowboys. Fast forward to 2024 and now Witten has a son that is garnering SEC attention, which could see him in the league in only a few more years.

Jason Witten’s younger son, Cooper Witten is entering his sophomore season at Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas after starring as a freshman. As a freshman, Witten largely starred on defense totaling 82 tackles, two interceptions and all-state honors.

How many SEC offers does Cooper Witten have?

Currently, Witten has SEC offers from the Oklahoma Sooners and Missouri Tigers of the SEC, and three other power four offers according to On3. The fact that he is only entering his sophomore season should give plenty of time for Witten to receive more offers, including one from the Vols one would assume.

Witten will need to keep improving upon his impressive freshman season, but all signs are pointing towards him doing so with genetics and time both being in his favor.

Will Cooper Witten play for the Tennessee Volunteers?

The “homer” choice for Cooper here would follow in his father Jason’s footsteps and to end up in Knoxville. While some players like Shedeur Sanders have not followed in their father’s footsteps, so much tradition lives in Knoxville. This combined with the program seemingly on the ascent under head coach Josh Heupel is promising for Vol fans that may want the next generation Witten to end up on rocky top.
