After receiving a Crystal Ball earlier in the day, Arkansas reportedly landed a commitment from star Florida Atlantic transfer guard Johnell Davis Tuesday night. Davis has also entered his name in the NBA draft, and will continue to receive feedback before making an ultimate decision.
The 6'4, 185 pound guard is ranked as a top 2 player in the transfer portal according to both 247 and On3. On3 ranks Davis at No. 1 overall, while 247 ranks him No. 2 (behind Oumar Ballo).
Davis averaged 18.2 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and 2.9 APG while shooting 48.3% from the field and 41.4% from three this past season. Davis was named Co-AAC Player of the Year this year, sharing the honors with fellow SEC portal addition Chris Youngblood (USF-->Alabama).
Davis also previously averaged 13.8 PPG for FAU's Final Four team in 2023. Davis was named C-USA 6th Man of the Year in 2023. He burst onto the scene while helping lead FAU to a shocking run to the Final Four. He notably had a 29 point, 12 rebound, 5 assist, 5 steal game in the Round of 32.
He will have one season of eligibility remaining in Fayetteville.
With no players returning after the departure of Eric Musselman, John Calipari has begun to remake the Arkansas roster since taking over. Davis is the third portal addition, to go along with several new HS commits added.
The addition of Davis jumps Arkansas up to the No. 4 ranked transfer portal class in the nation according to 247. I would expect Arkansas to continue to climb up the rankings with even more additions presumably coming. Arkansas still has 7 open scholarship spots remaining.
Davis joins Jonas Aidoo (Tennessee) and Zvonimir Ivisic (who followed Cal from Kentucky) as the Razorbacks' portal additions so far. Cal has also brought a trio of top-50 recruits with him to Arkansas in Karter Knox, Billy Richmond, and Boogie Fland.
