Former Auburn Point Guard Aden Holloway has announced he will be transferring to the in-state rival Alabama Crimson Tide for the 2024 season.
Holloway was a four star recruit for the class of 2023 according to On3 and started in 26 games for the Tigers this past season. He averaged 7.3 points and 2.7 assists per game in a somewhat modest freshman campaign under Tigers head coach Bruce Pearl.
Holloway played point guard for the Tigers in 2023 and struggled shooting the ball at only 31%. His skill set seemed to not mesh perfectly with Pearl’s system, and his comments since announcing his transfer seemed to match just that.
Here is what Aden Holloway Said about His Former Team after Transferring to Alabama
According to sportskeeda, Holloway stated, “I kind of got sold a dream by my coach.” This was a direct message and shot to Pearl who recruited Holloway out of high school.
If Holloway felt like he was sold a dream at Auburn, he can only hope that the same won’t apply in Tuscaloosa under head coach Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide. In an interview with Bama247 of 247Sports, after Alabama defeated Auburn in Tuscaloosa, Oats had some kind words to say about Holloway. “He’s one of the best guards in the country,” Oats said.
With Oats giving him these accolades before he even stepped foot on campus as a player in Tuscaloosa, there is no question that Oats has confidence in Holloway.
Regardless of whether he has confidence in the guard or not, Holloway added fuel to the fire for the basketball rivalry which has intensified over the last few years with both teams consistently in the top 25.
One thing is for certain in that Holloway not only better perform at his new school the entire season, but specifically against the Auburn Tigers as they will be more than ready to challenge him given the remarks.
