In a top five matchup between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kentucky Wildcats, Christian Moore slugged three home runs on Sunday afternoon to break the all time home run record at Tennessee.
This record was held by teamate Blake Burke, who broke the record with 41 home runs a few weeks ago. Since then, Burke has hit three more homeruns, but Moore has hit enough to pass him.
Moore hit four home runs in the series against Kentucky, which included a three homer game on Sunday afternoon. The first home run of those three tied Burkes record with 44, the second broke it at 45, and the third gave him a comfortable lead with 46 career home runs.
This is a big honor for the 67th best draft prospect in this years draft. His power numbers have been incredible this season as he is in the top ten of division one baseball in home runs.
This season, Moore has a batting average of .376 with 19 home runs and 45 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.265, which includes an on-base percentage of .443 and a slugging percentage of .822.
Burke and Moore will continue to battle for the home run title all season. Both will be drafted this summer so whoever ends the season with the lead will have it until another player breaks it.
Moore has just two more career home runs over Burke so this fight for the home run lead will last for the rest of the season.
This season, Burke has a batting average of .409 with 14 home runs and 38 runs batted in. He also has an OPS of 1.296, which includes an on-base percentage of .470 and a slugging percentage of .826. He also has 20 doubles this season so the power numbers are there for Burke.
Keep an eye out for this home run race for the rest of the season, but for now, Christian Moore is the all-time home run leader for the Tennessee Volunteers.
