If you are a college football fan, get familiar with the name Donovan Green. Green is a junior tight end for the Texas A&M Aggies and poised for more than few shining moments in 2024.

After showing flashes of greatness as a true freshman in 2022 for the Aggies, Green tore his ACL in fall training camp and was out for the entire 2023 season. Now back healthy, Green is primed for helping lead the Aggies as a blocker and pass catcher.

Why will Donovan Green have a breakout season in 2024?

Top receiving option for the Aggies in 2024: Wide receiver Noah Thomas returns to the Aggies in 2024 who emerged last year for the Aggies, but with the loss of Anias Smith Green should move up the depth chart some.

Donovan Green was highly recruited: On3 ranked Green as a four star recruit and the sixth highest at his tight end position in the 2022 high school recruiting class. With other highly recruited Aggies tight end Jake Johnson transferring to North Carolina this past off season, expect Green to be a focal point of Colin Klein’s offense.

Colin Klein’s offense is great for tight ends: Klein who is a former quarterback for the Kansas State Wildcats comes over from his alma mater as the offensive coordinator for the Aggies in 2024, a role which he previously served for the Wildcats. Klein likes to feature tight ends in his offense, which bodes well for Green.

Wildcats tight end Ben Sinnott should be a sign of great things to come for Green as while in Manhattan, Klein utilized the junior Sinnott to a tune of 49 receptions for 676 yards and six touchdowns from the tight end position in 2023.

Sinnott ended up having enough value to leave school after only his junior season and was drafted into the NFL by the Washington Commanders in the second round.

Green started as a freshman: To start any games as a freshman at the SEC is impressive, and Green not only started in four, but appeared in 10 games for the Aggies in 2022. Green caught 22 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns for the Aggies. He averaged 10.6 yards per reception.

These are staggering statistics for a tight end regardless of the amount of action when it comes to the overall production given his amount of opportunities. Fast forward another two years older and strong and one should not expect anything but Green building on these numbers.

Green has great chemistry with Conner Weigman: Green came in with quarterback Conner Weigman who is also entering his junior year with the Aggies. The tandem showed great chemistry during Green’s freshman season which should only arise again in 2024.

"Conner has great chemistry with the team," Green said. "Having been at Texas A&M and learning his third playbook, he is really prepared. Us rehabbing together helped, but we have a good connection on the field and plan to keep that going."

Green shines in big moments: One of Green’s touchdown receptions as a freshman came against the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2022. As always, the Tide were amongst the nations elite that season and their defense was stout as usual. For Green to not crumble under pressure and perform so early on in situations like these show he has what it takes as a veteran on the team two years later.

"I got to show a little bit of what I can do as a freshman and I'm just excited to get back on the field with my teammates and ball," Green said. "It's hard not being able to help out my guys."

There are way too many positive signs that Green will have nothing short of a breakout season in 2024 for the Aggies for it not to be true. While several other tight ends are being hyped up more this off season in the SEC and across college football, Green is a sleeping giant that will take the league by storm.
