Do not bet on these players to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024
While there are several common names to pick for the Heisman Trophy each year based on betting odds, some of these are way off at years end. For example, Caleb Williams entered the 2023 season as the pre-season favorite to win as he won the award in 2022.
Williams’ season, as well as the Trojans who finished the regular season 7-5 did not match up. And Williams finished far from first. In fact, he was not even a finalist to win the award in New York.
While in 2024 last years winner Jayden Daniels of the LSU Tigers is off to the NFL, there are still several players even with decent odds that I would not recommend taking on FanDuel, so I wanted to share my thoughts.
Here are players not to bet on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024.
Trevor Etienne (RB, Georgia)
Etienne transferred over from the in-conference rival Florida Gators after spending his first two seasons in Gainesville. Etienne and Montrell Johnson would have been the unquestionable tandem in Gainesville in 2024, with Etienne presumed to take the bulk of the carries. Therefore, I would have probably considered him a decent running back to lay your money on for the Heisman Trophy.
However, Etienne is in Athens now, not Gainesville. And in Athens, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs traditionally share carries amongst their running backs. And not only is this important to note, but also important is the fact that Georgia has a much more crowded running back room than the Florida Gators.
What running backs will get carries for the Georgia Bulldogs? Etienne will be joined by Roderick and Branson Robinson in 2024. This to go along with a group of wide receivers that allow for Carson Beck and the Bulldogs offense to have options all over the field in my opinion make Etienne a Heisman candidate that should not be bet on.
Etienne has odds of +60000 on FanDuel, but I still do not think he is worth the wager.
