Do not bet on these players to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024

While names like Carson Beck, Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart and others sit near the top of the board for odds makers for the Heisman Trophy in 2024, some are more favorable in my eyes to win the award than others. Therefore, I share my thoughts on who not to bet on to win the hardware.

Garrett Nussmeier (QB, LSU)

Nussmeier’s odds are at +20000. While I think Nussmeier will have a great season, I do not think that he will put up Heisman worthy numbers for the LSU Tigers. The Tigers lost their top two pass catching options at Malik Nabors and Brian Thomas Jr. to the NFL Draft in 2023. This combined with it being Nussmeier’s first season as the Tigers’ starting quarterback make me not sold on his passing game.

With that being said, I do think however Nussmeier will have a season similar to that of AJ McCarron, former quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide who was known as a game manager, but still led his team to back-to-back national championships.

The strength of the Tigers is in their offensive line, and therefore will probably rely on their running backs like senior Josh Williams and sophomore Kaleb Jackson.
