Do the Alabama Crimson Tide have their Next Elite Running Back Trio?

Jamarion Miller, Justice Haynes and Richard Young appear to be ready to take it to SEC opponents in 2024 out of the backfield for the Crimson Tide. In this article, I dive into how Alabama may have three running backs poised to give SEC defenses challenges all year long in the SEC.

Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy. These three were all once on the same roster in Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Tide. Beyond Tuscaloosa, pretty much anyone nationally would be hard pressed to find a better trio for their team at any point in history.

During their careers with the Crimson Tide, Ingram, Richardson and Lacy combined for 8,793 yards in nine seasons combined. In each of their junior years which was the best season for each, they combined for 4,659 yards.

Additionally, Ingram won the Heisman trophy during his time in Tuscaloosa, and Richardson finished third. And we all remember the 2013 BCS National Championship Game where Eddie Lacy ran over Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o in route to Alabama’s 42-14 win over the Irish.

Well, the next trio may presently be in  Tuscaloosa and we may not even know it yet.

Here is the three-headed monster that many have not realized yet is ready to take charge in Tuscaloosa

Jamarion Miller

Miller is the oldest of the top three running backs on the depth chart in Tuscaloosa entering his third season of college football. Miller has spent the first two seasons in Tuscaloosa in a backup role, but showed in the spring game that he is ready to take charge.

Miller is a class of 2022 high school recruit to the Crimson Tide out of Tyler, Texas. According to On3 https://www.on3.com/db/jamarion-miller-55173/ , Miller ranked as the 90th prospect nationally and number four running back overall in the class. He seems to be on track for proving his worth in Tuscaloosa and living up to that this coming season.

Justice Haynes

Haynes was kept under wraps in 2023 as true freshman. The Buford, Georgia product was the 33rd ranked player nationally and number two running back overall according to On3.

Haynes actually burst onto the scene before he was even on it after videos of him last preseason surfaced on X (formerly known as Twitter) showing his quick feet.

Those quick feet showed up against the Michigan Wolverines in the second half of the Rose Bowl in 2023 as Haynes broke away for some nice runs. Look for him to have even more opportunities to display his talent for the Crimson Tide in 2024.

Richard Young

Unlike his fellow 2023 recruiting class running back teammate Justice Haynes, Richard Young hardly saw the field at all in 2023 as he was slated as the fifth running back on the depth chart.

That may have motivated Young who absolutely looked the part in the spring game a few weeks ago for the Crimson Tide carrying the ball seven times for 29 yards and a touchdown. It was not just that though, Young looked to be carrying defenders quite easily in the game on his way to the end zone.

Young was no slouch of a recruit either though mind you. He was the number four running back nationally according to On3 for the class of 2023, and the 63rd ranked prospect nationally.

With these three looking like they are all ready to have meaningful playing time in the SEC in 2024, do not be surprised if we get a unique look this year in Tuscaloosa with a three running back rotation which could allow the Crimson Tide to impose their will on their opponents.
