Bo Davis is the highest paid defensive line coach in the country for the LSU Tigers after being brought over after the 2023 season on a three-year contract of just over $4 million. And recent comments by LSU Tigers four star commit Zion Williams show early signs that Davis is worth every penny.

What did Zion Williams say about Bo Davis?

In an interview with ESPN 104.5 FM’s Matt Moscona featured on LockedOn LSU, Williams was not shy about stating directly that he went to LSU because of Davis who was his primary recruiter, and will be his position coach during his time in Baton Rouge.

Moscona asked Williams what the deciding factor was that made him pick LSU. Williams said, “Honestly and whole-heartedly is what coach Bo. The first time I met coach Bo it was like I need to play for this guy.”

For a coach that has only been on campus for a few months, that is high praised. And especially since Williams hails from Lufkin Texas, only  a few hours away from Austin which is the home of the Texas Longhorns where Davis was when he began recruiting Williams.

Moscona went on to ask Williams the scenario that if Davis had stayed at Texas if he would have stayed committed to the Longhorns. Williams responded with a very honest response. “Honestly, yeah. With the way these schools are for me, it feels like I could genuinely see myself go play at any school…Coach Bo was that deciding factor.”

Davis and new defensive coordinator Blake Baker are really changing things quickly by the way of recruiting so far in Baton Rouge, hoping to improve on a defense that finished second to last in the SEC last year allowing 408.8 yards per game. And considering the recent run of defensive line recruits that have committed to the Tigers, more good things seem to be on the horizon thanks to Davis.
