Five potential candidates to replace Jim Schlossnagle at Texas A&M
Tim Corbin (Vanderbilt Head Coach)
I know what you are thinking, no way Tim Corbin leaves Vanderbilt. And you are probably right, but if you are A&M I would at least make Corbin tell you no.
Corbin's list of accolades is just about too long to even attempt to go over. Across his 22-year career at Vanderbilt, Corbin has amassed a 921-443-1 (.675) record, has won two National Championships, and has led the Dores to 18 straight NCAA tournaments. He has also won four SEC regular season titles, three SEC tournament titles, and has gone to Omaha five times.
You get the point, Tim Corbin is not just one of the best coaches of this generation, but of all-time. So, why would he leave Vanderbilt?
Well, on one hand the last three years have not been *as good* as years past for Vandy. Over the last three seasons, Vandy has failed to reach 40 wins twice (2022 and 2024) and have finished below .500 in SEC play those two seasons as well. They have also lost in Regionals all three seasons. Corbin could view this as a time to move on and get a fresh-start elsewhere. Plus, 22 years is a long time to be a coach anywhere.
Again, I think the chances of Corbin leaving are slim-to-none (he is almost synonymous with Vanderbilt baseball at this point), but A&M has the resources to make a run and again, at least make him say no.
Will Bolt (Nebraska Head Coach)
Here is the potential candidate with the strongest connection to Texas A&M. Bolt has had two different tenures as an assistant coach at Texas A&M (2006-07, 2015-2019).
After that second stop in College Station, Bolt was hired as the Head Coach at Nebraska, where he has amassed a 137-97-1 (.585) record and made two NCAA tournament appearances in four full seasons (his first year was the Covid-shortened 2020 season).
Bolt's most successful season with the Huskers was this season, where Nebraska won 40 games, won the Big Ten tournament, and made a regional.
While again, this would not necessarily be the sexiest hire, Bolt is a coach with connections to A&M/the area (he's originally from Conroe, Texas), and has had some recent success at Nebraska
