Georgia picked up a second commitment in their HS class of 2024 on Monday night in Four-Star center Somto Cyril out of Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Ga. Cyril had previously signed to play for Kentucky, but was granted a release from his NLI after John Calipari's departure. Cyril also entered his name into the NBA Draft as well.
Cyril started his HS career at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, TN, but he ended up at Overtime Elite in Atlanta for his final two High School seasons.
247 ranks Cyril as the No. 46 overall player in the 2024 class and the No. 10 ranked Center. On3 ranks him as the No. 41 overall player. All four major recruiting services rank Cyril somewhere in the range of the 40th-55th overall ranked player in the class.
Cyril is one of the best rip protectors, interior defenders, and rebounds in the 2024 class. He has limited offensive range away from the rim, but he fits a big need for Georgia in terms of a presence down-low. He is also a strong dunker.
He checks in at 6'10, 240 pounds with a 7'5 wingspan.
Cyril averaged 9.1 PPG, 9.3 RPG, and an OTE leading 3.3 BPG on 65.9% shooting this past year at Overtime Elite. He put up those numbers playing a hair over 20 minutes per game across 7 contests. In 2022/23 at OTE, he averaged 8.1 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 3.4 BPG on 66.2% shooting in 15 games.
Cyril's blocks per game numbers led the OTE by far this year, as he averaged a full block per game more than the next closest player.
In his Sophomore season (2021/22) at HHCA, Cyril averaged 8.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 4.7 BPG on 70% shooting.
Cyril joins five-star Asa Newell in Georgia's 2024 High School class that now ranks as a top-30 HS class. Georgia has also currently added three additions in the transfer portal (De'Shayne Montgomery and Dakota Leffew from Mount St. Mary's and Justin Abson from App State), and currently have four open scholarship spots remaining now with the addition of Cyril.
