Boise State Broncos Transfer quarterback, Taylen Green looks extremely comfortable in spring practice so far for the Arkansas Razorbacks according to LockedOn Razorbacks host, John Nabors. .

Here is what transpired this off-season for the Arkansas Razorbacks to make Taylen Green the favorite as starting quarterback.

Although the Razorbacks lost last years starting quarterback, KJ Jefferson to the transfer portal, they did bring back Jacolby Criswell who transferred from North Carolina after the 2021 season after losing his job to Drake Maye due to injury.

Despite this however, Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman’s seat was blazing hot after a 4-8 record last year, prompting him to bring in offensive guru and former Razorbacks head coach, Bobby Petrino as his offensive coordinator.

Petrino will have full control of the offense. And we all know what he has done in the past at the controls in Fayetteville.

Although Criswell carries over from last years team, the hire of Petrino changed things as he shortly thereafter brought in Green. Green will be entering his fourth season of college football with two years of eligibility remaining.

In 26 starts the past two seasons for the Broncos, Green has thrown for 3,794 yards, 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Despite these numbers and the assumption many had that Petrino brought Green in for the sole purpose of being the starter over any other quarterback, many still were skeptical as well as they had not seen a since practice yet to evaluate.

That debate is changing quickly after the Razorbacks began spring practice this week.

Here are John Nabors thoughts on why Taylen Green should be the starting quarterback for the Hogs

Nabors, who attended Arkansas first spring practice this week was extremely confidence on his podcast saying, “folks that’s over. Taylen Green is the quarterback...And no I don’t need any more than just one practice to see it,” when it came to any speculation about it being an open quarterback competition for the Razorbacks.

With a very intricate offense that Petrino brings, it usually takes a quarterback time to learn Petrino’s system. Once they learn it however, they take off as we have seen in the past.

According to Nabors however, Green appears to be picking it up quickly. “What I saw from Taylen Green was nothing short of an understanding…what I saw from Taylen Green in the comfort level that he had of just a simple calling plays, audibles, checkdowns…knowing when to run, when not to run. All of those things in the very first practice, I didn’t see a single thing where I’m like that’s a bad decision,” Nabors said.

This strong viewpoint and words from Nabors who has been a lifelong Hogs fan and long-time expert analyst and host on the team should not be taken with a grain of salt. And as long as it does not turn out to be a rushed logic, the Razorbacks could be the surprise team in the SEC in 2024.
