The 18th ranked LSU Tigers upset the seventh ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in game one of a three game series. Let's recap this big win for LSU.
Luke Holman got the start for the Tigers and did well early, but struggled in his last few innings. In 5.2 innings pitched, Holman struck out ten batters and allowed four hits, zero walks, and four earned runs. This earned him the win, making his record 6-1 on the season.
Greyson Carter got the start for the Commodores and struggled early. In 3.2 innings pitched, Carter struck out two batters and gave up seven hits, three walks, and seven earned runs. This gave up the loss, making his record on the season 3-1.
The scoring began in the bottom of the third as the Tigers scored six runs. This rally started with a solo home run from Josh Pearson. Then Paxton Kling scored on a fielders choice hit by Mac Bingham. Quickly after, Tommy White hit a run scoring single. Brady Neal followed with a two run single. Finally, Michael Braswell hit a run scoring groundout to give LSU a 6-0 lead.
The Tigers kept pouring it on with three more runs in the fourth inning. Mac Bingham hit a solo home and Hayden Travinski hit a two run single to give LSU a 9-0 lead.
Vanderbilt finally got on the board in the fifth inning with four runs. Jayden Davis got the scoring started for the Commodores with a run scoring single. Shortly after, Jonathan Vastine hit a three run homer to make the score 9-4.
In the sixth inning, Vanderbilt added a few more runs to continue their comeback. Jack Bulger hit a run scoring single and Jayden Davis hit a run scoring double to make the score 9-6.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jared Jones hit a run scoring single to make the score 10-6. This was the final run scored in this game.
Griffin Herring was able to throw 3.1 scoreless innings to earn a save and shut down the Commodores comeback.
With the win, LSU improves their record to 21-10, with a 3-7 conference record. With the loss, Vanderbilt drops to 23-7, with a 6-4 conference record.
