Luke Holman Leads LSU to Ranked Win Over Florida in Game One

On Friday night, the two teams from the 2023 College World Series faced off in the regular season. The fifth ranked LSU Tigers beat the sixth ranked Florida Gators in game one of three.

Luke Holman got the start for the Tigers and continued to prove his dominance. In six innings pitched, Holman struck out 13 batters and allowed one hit, three walks, and one earned run. This was enough to earn the win, making his record 5-1.

Griffin Herring got the save out of the bullpen for LSU. In three scoreless innings, Herring struck out three batters and allowed three hits.

Cade Fisher got the start for the Gators and continued to struggle. In five innings pitched, Fisher struck out five batters and gave up five hits, two walks, and five earned runs. This got him the loss, making his record 2-2.

The Tigers got the scoring started in the first inning as Josh Pearson and Ethan Frey both had run scoring singles.

Then in the fourth inning, the Gators got on the board with a solo home run from Ty Evans. This made the score 2-1, with the Tigers having the lead.

The Tigers got three more runs in the sixth inning. Michael Braswell walked in a run, Paxton Kling hit a sacrifice fly out, and Mac Bingham hit a run scoring single.

In the eighth inning, Mac Bingham drove in another run with a run scoring double. This made the score 6-1 and Griffin Herring closed the door, giving LSU the win.

With the win, LSU improved their record to 19-4, with a 2-2 conference record. With the loss, Florida dropped their record to 12-9, with a 2-2 conference record.

Game two of this three game series will be played this evening at seven o'clock, eastern standard time.
