The Ole Miss Rebels stayed hot by picking up a big midweek victory over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Both teams missed becoming ranked this week by D1Baseball, but received votes by other networks.

Riley Maddox got the start for the Rebels and had quality start. In six innings pitched, Maddox struck out six batters and allowed five hits, no walks, and two earned runs. This was enough to get the win on the mound, making his overall record 2-1.

The Golden Eagles used seven different pitchers today in their loss. Chandler Best threw two innings that were the most on the team. Those two innings were scoreless with two strikeouts and two base runners. Ben Riley Flowers and JW Armistead also threw scoreless innings.

The scoring began in the first inning for the Rebels as Jackson Ross and Ethan Lege both had run scoring singles.

The Golden Eagles responded fast in the second inning by scoring three runs. A run scoring single from Ozzie Pratt, a run scoring fielders choice from Gabe Broadus, and a run scoring single from Dalton McIntyre got Southern Mississippi the lead.

There was no scoring until the sixth inning. The Rebels took the lead with two fielders choices, which plated two runs for Ole Miss.

In the seventh, Bo Gatlin hit a sacrifice flyout to score a run and Luke Hill found his way to the plate on a throwing error.

In the eighth inning, Ethan Lege hit a two run homer to secure an 8-3 lead for Ole Miss. Connor Spencer came in and threw a scoreless inning to lock down the victory for the Rebels.

After the win, Ole Miss improved their record to 16-6 and Southern Mississippi fell to 14-7. The Rebels will head to Knoxville this weekend for a three game series against the Tennessee Volunteers.
