Ranking the Best Live Mascots of the SEC

With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, there will now be 10 live mascots in the SEC in 2024. While some of these mascots are large and initimidating, others are smaller and and take on more of a cuter appearance. Regardless, there are shapes and sizes of every SEC fans preference. In this article, I provide my rankings of my favorite live SEC mascots.

6. Sir Big Spur, South Carolina

The sandstorm entrance on gameday in Columbia before the South Carolina Gamecocks take the field is definitely a site to behold. Their mascot, “Sir Big Spur,” the black-breasted red gamecock is always taking part.

While not intimidating, the features and posture to be embody college football in the SEC if you ever get a chance to see the site with the white towels of Gamecock fans waving in the background. Catch it at sunset and even better.

Seeing Sir Big Spur crow while perched truly embodies the SEC. Big ups the University of South Carolina and its fans here!

5. Boomer and Sooner, Oklahoma

Known as the Sooner Schooner, the Conestoga (covered wagon) led by live mascots Boomer and Sooner  lead the Oklahoma Sooners onto the field before every home game and have done so since 1964 in Norman.

According to www.ou.edu, the Sooner Schooner is “reminiscent of the mode of travel use by pioneers who settled in Oklahoma Territory around the time of the 1889 Land Run.”

To me this is pretty neat that a university can pay great tribute in this way to the pioneers before it.
