Ranking the Best Live Mascots of the SEC

With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, there will now be 10 live mascots in the SEC in 2024. While some of these mascots are large and initimidating, others are smaller and and take on more of a cuter appearance. Regardless, there are shapes and sizes of every SEC fans preference. In this article, I provide my rankings of my favorite live SEC mascots.

4. Smokey, Tennessee

The colors of smokey, the Tennessee Volunteers live mascot absolutely just fit the Tennessee atmosphere in my opinion. The bluetick Coonhound lead the vols onto the field through the famous “T” each gameday.

Smokey always comes laced with a checkerboard orange and white vest ready to take in each home game.

The first Smokey served under head coach, Harvey Robinson in 1953 and 1954 and went 10-10-1.

3. UGA, Georgia

Without a doubt, “Uga” as he is known is probably the most known mascot not only in the SEC, but the entire country. And rightfully so.

Uga XI took over in 2023. While most think that every Uga mascot is named “Uga,” each actually has their own unique name. Uga Xi is known as “Boom,” which is fitting for a Kirby Smart-led Georgia Bulldogs team that always takes the field with defensive tenacity, ready to lower said boom.

Uga’s bloodline actually comes from the Seiler family based in Savannah, Georgia.

One of Uga’s most famous moments came against the Auburn Tigers in the annual affair known as the “Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry” in the 1996 game in Athens when the mascot attacked Auburn Tigers wide receiver, Robert Baker after he got too close to the English Bulldog.
