SEC Football: 5 Names Still in the Transfer Portal to Watch for SEC Programs
While most of the top players in the transfer portal have already committed to new schools, there's still a lot of talent to be had. Here is a look at a few names that are currently uncommitted in the transfer portal, who could be in play for SEC teams.
5 Names Still in the Transfer Portal to Watch for the SEC
WR Evan Stewart (from Texas A&M)
Evan Stewart is arguably the top player left remaining in the portal. In fact, On3 ranks him as the No. 1 player overall in the portal (even among committed players), while 247 ranks him No. 2. Both have him as the top receiver. Stewart was one of the most talented players in the SEC the past two seasons while at Texas A&M. While he was limited to just 18 games in his two-year Aggie career due to injuries, he has career totals of 91 catches, 1,163 yards, and 6 TD's. In 2023, Stewart had 38 catches, 514 receiving yards, and 4 TD's across 8 games.
Pete Nakos reports that Ole Miss and Tennessee are two of the teams to watch for Stewart, as those two high-powered offenses continue to look to add talent from the transfer portal. Other teams also in the mix appear to be Florida State, Oregon, and USC.
CB AJ Harris (from Georgia)
Harris was a 5* in the class of 2023 out of Phenix City, AL. who was one of the top recruits in Georgia's recruiting class a year ago. Harris played in 7 games as a reserve corner in his Freshman season in Athens where he made 8 tackles. While he didn't play much as a Freshman at UGA, he was behind some very talented players and still has a lot of potential.
247 ranks Harris as the No. 7 player in the portal (and the No. 2 CB), Rivals ranks him at No. 12, and then On3 ranks him No. 88. Harris visited Auburn (just 30 or so minutes from where he went to High School) a couple weeks ago, and they're currently the favorite to land him.
EDGE Nic Scourton (from Purdue)
Scourton is the most recent addition to the portal on our list, having just joined on Wednesday, December 27th. He is one of the most talented pass-rushers in the portal, ranking 9th overall in the portal on 247 (as the top ranked EDGE rusher and 2nd ranked D-Lineman), and 23rd overall on On3 (No. 5 ranked EDGE).
Scourton broke out in 2023 as one of the top pass-rushers in the Big Ten. For the year, he had 50 tackles, 15 TFL, and 10 sacks for the Boilermakers. His 10 sacks were the most in the Big Ten (and were tied for ninth nationally) and his TFL number ranked third in the conference. Scourton was a second team All-Big Ten selection.
It's too early in the process for favorites to have emerged, but I expect multiple SEC teams to be some of the top teams seeking his services.
EDGE Korey Foreman (from USC)
Foreman is a former top recruit looking for a new home after his USC career didn't really go as planned. Foreman was a 5* and consensus top-5 recruit in the class of 2021. In fact, On3 ranked him as the No. 1 recruit in the class out of HS, while 247 ranked him third.
However, Foreman has dealt with injuries during his 3 years at USC, and struggled to put everything together in the time that he was on the field. Foreman has career totals of 25 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and 2.5 sacks across 23 games.
Foreman could be an interesting reclamation project for an SEC program. 247 ranks him as the No. 43 player in the portal.
WR LaJohntay Wester (from FAU)
Wester was a multi-year contributor for the Owls, but his big season came in 2023 when he put up 108 catches, 1,168 receiving yards, and 9 total TD's (8 receiving/1 rushing). For his career at FAU, he had 252 receptions, 2,703 receiving yards, and 23 total TD's (21 receiving/2 rushing). Wester was a First Team All-AAC selection in 2023.
On3 is by-far the most bullish on Wester, ranking him as the No. 14 player (and No. 3 receiver) in the portal. 247 meanwhile ranks Wester No. 168. Auburn, Arkansas, and Ole Miss are all teams to watch for Wester.
